You do not need to be rich to achieve financial freedom. Financial freedom is simply living debt free and organizing your money so that when the bills are due, you have the money set aside to pay them.

I have to agree with you about the budgeting. I spend more time working on that now that I'm in control of my finances than when I was thousands of dollars in debt, and that's exactly WHY I'm not still down in that hole.
I (and probably many others, I guess) do have to stay on top of it, though - it is SO easy to slip back into the bad habits, and not even realize it until the money-crunch comes.
